A Firm Built on One Clear Conviction

Most midlife investors in Hong Kong know more than they are given credit for. What they often lack is a structured way to apply that knowledge across a global portfolio.

Our Story

Where Meridian Crane Began

Meridian Crane was established in Hong Kong by a small group of educators and former financial analysts who noticed a consistent gap in what was available to investors in their forties and fifties. Financial advice was either very general or closely tied to specific product recommendations. Educational content tended to be written for either complete beginners or institutional professionals — rarely for the thoughtful, experienced individual sitting somewhere between those two categories.

The firm takes its name from the meridian lines that divide a map into navigable sections — and from the crane, long associated in this part of the world with patience and perspective. Both feel apt for the kind of portfolio thinking the courses are built around: systematic, oriented, and not given to hasty conclusions.

The three programmes offered today reflect more than two years of curriculum development, testing with cohorts of Hong Kong-based participants, and careful revision. They do not pretend to be comprehensive financial education. They do one thing well: help midlife investors in Hong Kong think more clearly about building a global portfolio that can carry meaningful weight over a long horizon.

We work with small cohort sizes to keep discussion substantive. We do not accept commission from any financial institution, and we do not hold a licence to provide investment advice — a distinction we consider a feature rather than a limitation.

Mission & Values

What Guides Our Work

Intellectual Honesty

We present trade-offs alongside opportunities. If something is uncertain, we say so. This is the only approach that serves participants over a long horizon.

No Conflicts of Interest

We receive no fees from financial institutions. Our only revenue is the fee paid by participants. This shapes every curriculum decision we make.

Respect for the Learner

Midlife investors are not beginners. Our materials assume experience and do not over-explain concepts participants already understand well.

Applied Learning

Written exercises and portfolio documents are not optional extras. They are how participants convert course content into decisions they can actually act on.

Standards & Protocols

How We Hold Ourselves to Account

No Advisory Licence Conflicts

Meridian Crane is not a licenced advisory firm. Content is educational in nature. We make this clear in all communications and programme documentation.

Annual Curriculum Review

All course materials are reviewed each year against current market conditions, regulatory changes affecting HK investors, and participant feedback from completed cohorts.

Data Protection

Participant information is held only for the duration of their enrolment and for the legally required period thereafter. It is not shared with third parties for commercial purposes.

Small Cohort Sizes

Cohorts are capped to maintain the quality of written feedback and discussion. We do not run programmes at scale in ways that reduce the quality of the learning experience.

Delivery Commitment

If a programme session is cancelled or delayed, participants receive clear notice and an alternative arrangement. We do not leave cohorts without support mid-course.

Post-Course Follow-Up

Participants in the Full Diversification Workshop receive a scheduled review session sixty days after completing the programme, at no additional cost.

Expertise & Approach

Thinking Across Markets and Time

Portfolio construction for midlife investors involves decisions that are qualitatively different from those facing someone in their thirties. Capital preservation starts to carry real weight alongside growth. The composition of a portfolio — across markets, currencies, and asset classes — shapes both the trajectory and the texture of the decades ahead.

Hong Kong sits at a particular point on the map. Many investors here have significant local property exposure, carry currency concentration in HKD and HKD-pegged assets, and have limited familiarity with the mechanics of holding assets across multiple jurisdictions. These are structural features, not personal failings, and they shape the kind of education that is actually useful.

Meridian Crane's curriculum addresses these features directly. The programmes are grounded in what a sophisticated individual investor can do — building frameworks for allocation decisions, understanding the real costs and benefits of currency hedging, and developing the behavioural habits that allow a long-horizon plan to hold up across difficult years in the market.

We do not position ourselves as an alternative to a financial adviser. For investors who benefit from personalised advice, that relationship remains important. What we offer is something different: the conceptual tools to engage with that advice more critically, or to make informed decisions independently when that is appropriate.
